Top 15 Movies of 2017

My Top 15 Films of 2017

I have no idea why there’s a flurry of end of year lists. Is it a way to remind ourselves that stuff happened? It gets to the end of the year, and I wish I’d a more organised way to capture everything. Better use of categories on the blog would be a start. Maybe I should make that new years resolution? Bollocks, I’m rambling like an old man. Here are my top 15 films I’ve seen from this year. Not all of them were released in 2017, but I’ve included movies that I saw for the first time this year.

  • Paterson – My most watched of 2017.
  • Thor: Ragnorock – Best opening scene of 2017.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – Best opening scene until Thor.
  • Blade Runner 2049 – Beautiful and lived up to the original in almost every way.
  • Hunt for the Wilderpeople – Best film I watched in 2017.
  • Atomic Blonde – Sexy John Wick.
  • Baby Driver – This is how you soundtrack a film.
  • Munich – The world will chew you up, spit you out, and forget you ever existed. Brutal.
  • Hellboy 2 – More please, oh wait…
  • Black Mass – The best Joker movie ever.
  • My Scientology Movie – Louis Theroux takes on a global cult. Louis wins.
  • Housebound – Netflix needs to give NZ filmmakers more money to make more movies.
  • The Girl With All The Gifts – New life in the Zombie genre.
  • The Big Short – All economics should be taught like this.
  • Never Hike Alone – A Friday 13th fan film that revives the franchise.
